UWE Bower Ashton Campus
University of West of England (UWE)
The University of the West of England (UWE), located in Bristol, is a modern university with roots that date back to the to the 16th century. Today, UWE has more than 27,000 students spread across three campuses in and around Bristol, with additional campuses in Gloucestershire.
UWE have been pioneering the use of BIM level 2 for its capital building programme and asset management. The University is creating a digital twin of its campuses which will be used in advanced ways to truly automate, optimise and connect systems as well as empowering staff and students. A critical part of this is an accurate record of the buildings and their assets.
Platinum 3D Consultants used both laser scanning and a drone survey to record the Bower Ashton campus and create Revit models of five existing buildings. The buildings were modelled to LOD 3 including all mechanical, electrical and plumbing fixtures and fittings. Ceilings tiles were removed to collect as much information as possible to create a comprehensive BIM.
The models are actively being used by the University and their contractors using the collaboration tool Revitzo. The models are being linked to their current Archibus CAFM system to enhance and simplify FM processes.
